AMARILLO, TX — A collision involving an alleged drunk driver hurt two individuals in Amarillo, Texas on Saturday, March 15th, 2014, according to a news release from The Amarillo Globe.

Authorities have said that they have reason to believe 27-year-old Jack Tunnell was hurt when the Ford Mustang he was driving was struck by a Cadillac while driving through the intersection of West 10th Street and South Adams Street.

Scene of the Accident

Jack Tunnell sustained unspecified injuries in the accident and was taken by EMS personnel to a nearby hospital for the treatment of injuries that were described as non-life-threatening.

The investigation into the accident is being handled by officials from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Commentary:

Alcohol related accidents are often seen as identical typical car crashed, and this is incorrect. The State of Texas has a set of liquor liability laws that ensure alcohol is served and sold in a responsible fashion. If an individual who is clearly intoxicated walks into a liquor store or bar, the business is forbidden by law to serve them any additional alcohol. Further, restaurants, nightclubs and bars that serve alcohol cannot serve somebody to the point of or beyond intoxication. They do so in order to protect their customer, as well as the general public. If any alleged drunk driver has come from a bar or restaurant where they were over-served, the bar needs to be held accountable for the accident alongside the accused driver. This is the only way to responsibly address the drunk driving problem in Texas.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
